From the moment you step into her care, Dr. Gulshan Karamchandani—known as Dr. K—welcomes you and ensures your eye health journey is comfortable. Patients benefit from Dr. K’s advanced expertise, as she earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and completed her Ocular Disease residency at the New York City VA Medical Center through SUNY College of Optometry.
Dr. K has served as a clinical attending, adjunct clinical professor, and director of eye clinics within the VA system, including clinics in Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and Seattle. These roles have shaped her well-rounded, patient-centered approach, grounded in clinical excellence and education. She currently practices at Serene Eyecare, in Round Rock, Texas, and welcomes new and returning patients.
With a true passion for ocular disease and pathology, Dr. K has a special interest in glaucoma and has devoted significant study to its management. In recent years, her focus has expanded to dry eye—especially as innovative treatments continue to emerge. Having personally experienced dry eye and being a glaucoma suspect, Dr. K understands what patients go through. As is often said in the exam room: “You should not feel your eyes!” If you do, inflammation is at work—but there is much that can be done. At Serene Eyecare, eyelid hygiene, lifestyle adjustments, nutrition guidance, prescription drops, and advanced in-office treatments are part of a proactive, personalized plan.
A firm believer in preventive eye care and overall wellness, Dr. K also participates in and frequently leads volunteer clinic trips nearly every year. During these visits, she helps patients protect their vision and improve their quality of life by providing free eye exams and glasses to underserved communities in Ecuador, Peru, Jamaica, Haiti, Trinidad, and Mexico. Giving back is not just a commitment—it is one of the most rewarding parts of the profession.
Above all, Dr. K loves her work. She helps people see clearly and safeguards their eye health. It is both a privilege and a passion. Beyond the clinic, she recharges with yoga, weight lifting, travel, experimenting in the kitchen, hiking, and spending time with family and friends. She returns to patients energized, skilled, and caring.
