What is Eyelid Microexfoliation
Microexfoliation with ZEST (Zocular Eyelid System Treatment) is a deep-cleaning eyelid treatment for problems that ordinary washing can't fully resolve.
Over time, the edges of your eyelids where your eyelashes grow can accumulate natural oils from the meibomian glands, dead skin cells, environmental debris, bacteria, and sometimes microscopic Demodex mites. When this buildup sits along the lash line, it can clog the oil glands and cause inflammation. This often leads to conditions like blepharitis, a chronic eyelid irritation, and contributes to dry eye disease by disrupting the tear film.

How it Works
ZEST uses a specialized okra-based gel to gently exfoliate the eyelid margins. Okra’s natural cleansing and anti-inflammatory properties help remove debris without irritating the delicate skin around the eyes. During the procedure, an eye care professional applies and massages the gel along the lash line to remove buildup that is difficult to address at home. The procedure is quick, typically lasting 10 to 15 minutes, non-invasive, and generally comfortable.
A key benefit is the restoration of healthy function to the meibomian glands, which produce the oily layer of your tears. Proper gland function helps prevent tears from evaporating too quickly, supporting comfortable and stable vision.
Patients often notice:
-
Reduced redness, itching, and irritation
-
Less crusting or “gunk” along the lashes
-
Improved comfort for contact lens wearers
-
Better overall tear quality and eye hydration
It’s often recommended as part of an ongoing eye care routine, especially for people with chronic lid inflammation or dry eye symptoms. The treatment may be repeated periodically depending on the condition’s severity to maintain results.
In short, ZEST isn’t just about cleaning—it’s about restoring balance to the eyelid environment so your eyes can function and feel better long-term.
